Dobblethink - Reality Control. The power to hold two completely contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accept both of them. [1]
Newspeak - Newspeak is "politically correct" speech taken to its maximum extent. Newspeak is based on standard English, but all words describing "unorthodox" political ideas have been removed. [1]
Big Brother - A person or organization exercising total control over people's lives. [2]
Hyperreality - Hyperreality is used in semiotics and postmodern philosophy to describe a hypothetical inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from a simulation of reality, especially in technologically advanced post-modern societies. [3]
Semiotics - the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation. [4]
Postmodernism - A late 20th-century style and concept in the arts, architecture, and criticism that represents a departure from modernism and has at its heart a general distrust of grand theories and ideologies as well as a problematical relationship with any notion of “art.” [5]
Simulation - The deliberate artificial imitation of an experience or a process with the intention of making the imitation as close as possible to the 'real thing'. Baudrillard is a key thinker in the area.

Hyperreality - a state in which images, and simulations, take on more reality than the state they represent, so that the distinction between reality and representation is no longer sustainable, A key thinker in the area is Jean Baudrillard.
